How to Turn on Your Gas Fireplace

Gas fireplaces are an excellent alternative to traditional wood-burning stoves, offering inexpensive, clean heat without the mess and hassle. It is important to observe safety regulations when turning your fireplace on. Here are the essential steps to learn for igniting your gas fireplace.
First: Familiarize yourself with the controls
Gas fireplaces usually feature two primary controls, a gas knob to control the flow of gas to the flame and an igniter switch. Locate these controls, and make sure they are operational. Some stoves also have a wall switch to turn the gas on and off as well. Make sure that switch is set to the "on" position before proceeding.
Second: Start the gas
Using the gas knob, turn the valve to its completely open position. This is usually all the way to the right. Do not worry if you think that is too much gas; you can turn it down once the flame is lit.
Third: Light the fireplace
Quickly press the igniter button to light the flame of the fireplace. You may have to press the button multiple times to get a spark. If you press the button more than five times without the flame lighting, turn the gas knob all the way to the left and test the igniter.
Fourth: Manage the gas flow
Once the fire is lit, adjust the gas knob to bring the flame to your ideal level. The larger the flame, the more gas is consumed, so you want to bring it down as far as possible. Gas heats very quickly and efficiently.
